There is no doubt that there are several advantages to buying plants online. However, there are a few things to look out for when buying plants by post.

Ensure that the plant description includes any recommendations regarding soil types and positioning of the plant. Make certain that you are aware of the dispatch date. When you are buying plants from a nursery online, there can be a wait of many weeks before your plants will be dispatched so the nursery can ensure the plants are in peak condition. Also, when you buy things like fruit trees, you need to know if they are bare root.

You also need to ensure that you are aware of the nursery’s returns policy. While most nurseries will take great care with packaging, it is always possible for plants such as topiary balls and olive trees to arrive damaged.

Certainly, buying plants online gives you access to a far wider range of plants than may be available at your local garden centre, but the downside is that you are unable to select an individual specimen.
